Back Gardens
Hopscotch anyone?
The Planters were hand built by a Stonemason.
The box Planters have Chinese Toons which attract the Tui's in spring.
The long Planters are a mixture of Mandarins, Oranges and Rainbow Flax.
The garden has been substantially upgraded during out time here.
The glasshouse has produced - tomatoes, snow peas, lettuce, spinach ... whatever you choose will easily flourish with a bit of care and attention. There is also an automatically timed watering system installed - making it very easy
The majority of the garden is now quite low maintenance, always offering something of interest to look at.
In Spring, now, the Chinese Toon in the planters at the back are fresh and pink and will change to green as the summer approaches. The large maple tree by the deck is wonderful with it's new lime green leaves and red florets, it provides excellent shade during the hotter months and the sun shines through it in winter to keep the deck dry and lots of light into the living areas and in winter, the leaves become excellent mulch.
The deck area means you and the kids can be outside and not be tramping mud back into the house. It also provides a great entertaining area in all seasons. The spa is very special and even when it's raining is very relaxing.
And now the fruit... the mandarin and navel orange trees down the side of the rear garden are really starting to produce lovely fruit - lucky you.
The grapes on the pergola, over the bricked paving area, outside the garage are very sweet and tasty. Huge bunches which ripen in Jan/Feb - Albany Surprise are the black ones and the smaller white grapes are a Muscat variety are so sweet. We often wondered about making wine but between us, the neighbours and the birds...
Another wonderful thing about our garden is the birdlife it attracts. The flowering cherry, outside the kitchen window, comes alive with Tui's when in blossom in Aug/Sept and they come back for the delicious little fruit October (now!). On occasion we have spotted a Kingfisher on the back fence but more often there are Pukeko on the school field, they never fail to keep us amused.
